About
Mrs. Laura Williams began the program in the 2023-2024 school year, starting not just one, but THREE different robotics programs to meet the needs of her students across the 6th, 7th, and 8th grades!
In each of the three leagues, students are given a new challenge annually and must design, build, program, and drive a robot to complete the challenge as best as they can. With enough funding and support, teams can increasingly compete in local, state, regional, and world-level tournaments to demonstrate their growth and mastery of the skills.

6th Grade – First Lego League (FLL)
FIRST® LEGO® League guides youth through STEM learning and exploration at an early age. Students will understand the basics of STEM and apply their skills in an exciting competition while building habits of learning, confidence, and teamwork skills along the way.
7th Grade – VEX IQ
VEX IQ is based on plastic, snap-together pieces specifically designed to build highly functional robots. This system doesn’t require any prior knowledge in robotics. Students can easily build their first robot, and the wide variety of additional parts means that they can build anything they imagine as they continue to learn.
8th Grade – VEX V5 Robotics Competition (VRC)
VEX VRC is the most advanced of the robotics leagues available at the middle school level. Students are able to customize the electronics and mechanical systems using flexible and powerful state of the art technology, while still making engineering approachable for novice users. Students also use programming skills to develop autonomous game play, mirroring critical thinking skills needed to succeed in both the 21st century’s workforce and in everyday life.
2024-2025 Season
For the 2024-2025 school year, we have 9 teams with more than 45 students! One of the best parts about being a brand-new program is that there’s a lot more funding available to buy equipment and start the teams, but then you move into year two… and the “start-up” funding disappears.

DRMS Robotics Booster Club
Thus began the DRMS Robotics Booster Club!
We have established the Booster Club to operate independently of the school, which enables us to fundraise and support the DRMS Robotics Program with more flexibility, and to take the work load off of the school staff so they can focus on helping the students.
Our objectives include promoting the educational benefit, financial support, tournament support, volunteer support, community engagement, and parental communication. Two of our first focus areas are to help raise funds and support the DRMS Robotics programs through hosting tournaments!
